BULLSEYE!

This bullseye has been an ongoing project for awhile. There's another bullseye out there somewhere waiting to be finished...but I won't mention her name....!

The fabrics are homespuns and it's all over my house.

Troy is standing on a chair so it's a little deceiving how big the quilt actually is. I think I measured it 64" wide--he's about 5'9" and it's as wide as his arms will spread...is that an exact measurement?! Not a big quilt, but big enough for him to wrap up in.

Now....how do I quilt this darn thing? Round and round each circle? I have barn-red homespun (checked) to go on the back so it's going to be a heavy quilt. Nice and warm!

The picture makes it look a little yellow because it's under my kitchen florescent lights. It's very warm-rich colors.

Quilting ideas?!....please?

I love it. But do you really want to quilt every circle round and round?
How many different fabrics did you use?

That's a beautiful quilt! I've been wanting to do a bullseye, but want to get some current projects finished. I like the circle idea, but it is hard to sew a circle, especially one that is round. :) I recommend a circlish design free motion that isn't required to be round, one that is continuous free motion so you don't have as many starts and stops.
Tying it is another way to go, if you put a button in the middle of each bullseye?

I love your bullseye! Your son looks pleased too! I would quilt it with spirals in the "rounds" and on the intersection of the four blocks. The circular shape doesn't have to be perfect--freeform would would just fine!

The bullseye turned out great!! Did you find the circle/round hard to do? Sorry, I seldom have any idea of the best quilting pattern to use.

Are you hand quilting it or machine quilting it?

If you are machine quilting it - I think a free flowing spiral that follow the shape of the circles and then a stitch in the ditch around the blocks would set off the blocks nicely.

I love those homespun fabrics.

That has turned out really well - of course I love the fabrics (have a large collection myself), so masculine. Sorry, no ideas for the quilting - I struggle enough with that for my own quilts.

I am thinking that you could keep it simple and just do straight lines--between the larger bullseye but also between the drunkard path shapes. A simple grid. Of course if you like to meander the free form shape idea would work too.

Gotta love those plaids!

I like your bullseye. One of my UFOs is a bullseye from a swap. I got the top assembled and then didn't like the way my border looked at a few spots. So I started ripping those out and then lost the pieces I ripped out. It really wouldn't take me long to just re-cut, sew and finish them but I just never get around to it. Maybe this year will be the year it's completed. And when you figure out how to quilt it let me know cause I can't decide how to quilt mine either. :-)

That's how I've seen bullseye quilts done - around and around the circle. Strictly freehand and loose - and I guess it goes quickly that way. You don't want to sew down the raggedy edges, after all.

Round and round, freehand scribble circles - easy peasy. Unless you are doing this on a baby machine and not a longarm. =) If you're on a baby machine, maybe just X across each square? Maybe wonky Xs, so it won't matter if the lines aren't perfect!

Great quilt. Did he have any ideas about the quilting?

This quilt is great. I love the colors. I think a grid line quilting would be nice.

What a wonderful quilt! Your choice of color and pattern are stunning. So much so that I really don't think it needs "highlighting" with the quilting. If it were mine I might do something very random (maybe machine stippling) or even just tie it.
