Simple Apron

When I went to Houston, I picked up some 1/2yard pieces of citrus fabric knowing I would make something for my DIL. She hinted that she'd like to have an apron and I found the perfect fabric for one.

I ended up only using two of the pieces and saved the lemon piece. She can make something out of it later. There are some decent sized scraps and I may (time willing) put them together for a hotpad or potholder.

Since nobody in my household would model, I used a flannel shirt hanging up instead.

ONE homemade gift for Christmas.

...at least the tree is up!

Several of you have asked...DH is lots better. He still has a inhaler that he uses several times a day, and still isn't 100% but he's doing much better.

Life on the range.....

I've been nursing a DH with pneumonia. It started with strep and then went down to the lungs. Having a spouse set there and say "I can't breathe" and being able to hear the rattle was scarey. After a trip to the ER with two injections and three prescriptions and a night of throwing up the pain meds...yep....being a SPOUSE and MOM can be lovely sometimes. Thank goodness for that little blue insurance card.

On the new-home-front....I have an electric pole and meter. We had a week of ice/snow storms and that put everybody about two weeks behind. Don't know how they figure their days but I've learned not to argue with contractors if you want them to work. Maybe friday (or sometime this weekend) I'll have the start of a basement. I keep looking for a raincloud. You can't dig a basement unless it rains, right?!

On the sewing-frontier.....I've made the citrus yardages I brought back from Houston into an apron. (picture later-nobody would model). I just need to sew the ties onto it and it will be done. I'll have ONE (Count them ONE) homemade present for Christmas.

Speakin of Christmas....SOMEBODY reminded me that Christmas was coming. No, I still don't have a tree up. It's still in the garage setting there will dust still on it. I mentioned that we needed to get it out and the response was "what's the hurry". I'm not the only one at my house not in the mood for Christmas.

Oh, I forgot...the tile-guy is suppose to come out tonight too. Have to describe how I want my shower built.

A start to being done...

I have cussed and discussed this quilt. It's going to be a baby gift for my niece who is due in May. Got the bright idea to do something different.

Well, I've showed you the blocks while I've been working on the embroidery and tonight I got them sewed together into the rest of the blocks.

No, the picture isn't the best. My holder-upper kept wiggling and the light wasn't the best, but hey..you can at least see what I've got put together.

If I haven't said it before, this was a kit bought back several (more than several) years ago. I'm sure it was a store-owner who put it together, but I can honestly say she did a really bad job on the instructions. The directions on sizes for the embroidery blocks didn't match the sizes for the finished blocks and that makes for a cranky seamstress. If you can tell, I had to put sashings around most of the blocks.

There was a drawing for the layout and I tried my best to follow the diagram. I did have one set of flying geese left over and one plain block remaining. May insert the flying geese on the left side where there are more plain blocks to give it some movement there--like it isn't busy enough?! There is also a light blue fabric cut for a 2 1/2" border that I have yet to sew on. Maybe tonight.

Don't even ask if I'm going to machine or hand-quilt this.....after the border gets put on it, I'm not going to look at it until after Christmas.

New RED Sled.....

There have been several years that I just haven't been in the mood for Christmas and this is one of them. Don't know if it's the thought of this being our last one in this house or that we're busy (which we've been busier). Haven't figured out what the culprit is. Is it sad that I don't even want to drag out the decorations?!

Thought I'd show what we did buy last weekend. The roads were too slick or go to work, but DH managed to get me out of the house to go pick up Troy's new vehicle. No, it's not new but it'll be new to our farm. It's a 2001 Dodge pickup. We teased him that it was a PM--purple machine, but after searching we found out it's called a deep scarlet red. He will be easy to buy for Christmas as it has four slick tires. Troy's already talking about chrome rails and maybe a toolbox so he's got something to work towards. I think the kid has more in his savings account than I do.




The pickup is actually from a sad story because the Grandma and Grandaughter bought the pickup together, but the GD couldn't/wouldn't make the payments on it. Step-dad took it away from her and told Grandmother to sell it. Hate to say that her loss is our fortune but sometimes that is how life is.

But..you know what's really funny....we've had this vehicle for five days and do you think Mama has even got to drive it yet?! nope..... He has offered to take me wherever I wanted to go...he's such a good kid!

I did ask if we could just decorate the new red-sled and not decorate anywhere else. Well, you know boyz...they jumped on that idea. Dont' think the DIL or girlfriend would go for that so one of these days I'll put up the tree...sometime.

Why do they start playing Christmas music on the radio in November? Maybe I'll get in the Christmas spirit before too long.

Difference in one day to the next!

Somebody made a comment about my dog being outside during the snowstorm. I was gonna say that he (Andy) has three different buildings (including our house) that he can go into or he can stay in the Igloo house with 8 cats keeping him warm. BUT...then I think about the saying my Mama use to say when people said things out of turn... "they need to sweep in front of their own doorstep before they sweep in front of anybody elses". Yep....I was gonna say that.

Even Gray-cat thinks it's too cold to come out and play! He's one of the main "heaters" in Andy's doghouse.
