Troy is now enrolled as a freshman at OSU. He had a full scholarship at another college (about 5 miles from the house), but you know how kids are. So, I may be looking for another job to pay for this education of my youngest.
Harvest is officially over. Yes, I've said that before but it's nice to have the combines in the barn. Actually, the guys have even worked the ground once. We are also double-planting this year--a crop called milo (or maize). It's a grain used for feed (also in birdseed). Since the wheat was so pitiful we're hoping the double-crop will help pay some more bills. Anybody else understand the concept of spending money to make money?
An accomplishment on my part: I've given up coffee and all pop. After major (MAJOR) kidney and bladder problems, the doctor has decided that I drink too much coffee. He also said that it would be better if I gave up the diet Coke too. Honestly, it was easier than expected. I'm also not good at limits..it's all or nothing. Guess being on CIPRO for the rest of my life isn't an option, so I'll give it up. Doc said to stick to water, fruit drinks and liquids that are clear.... so, rum in cranberry juice is pretty good actually. Something that I've noticed since the two months off of caffeine...my skin feels different and food tastes different. Kinda like the coffee isn't in my taste buds anymore.
I have a couple of quilty-projects that are almost finished and I should post some pictures. Hopefully soon...real soon.
...do you say POP or SODA or COLA?

I've cut way back on coffee and rarely drink Coke. I battle the bladder stuff a lot too. I grew up saying pop but have lived in SE KS long enough that I find myself saying soda most of the time.
That diet coke isn't good for your brain either, so good for you!!!
In Maine, we call it what it is. Coke is coke. Rootbeer is rootbeer, etc. I've heard other parts of the country call it pop but my most odd experience was in Paducah, KY. I wanted a rootbeer float and the waitress said they didn't have them. They had coke floats. So, I had to order a glass of rootbeer and a dish of ice cream and make it myself. Strange country, what?! (and to think, I might be living there next year.... )
What's Troy's major?
Good for you for double planting! Good luck on the second leg.

I grew up calling it coke, but try to say soda. I've been having similar problems, and am trying to drink less. My dh and I are down from 7 2-liters in one week to two.
Good luck with the maize.
Hugs,
Melinda
Out here in California, it's Soda, or you call it by what you want, Pepsi, Coke, Dr. Pepper, etc.
My husband is the Diet Pepsi drinker. I have a Diet Coke when I get a migraine. When the kids see me drinking a soda, they know to leave mom alone :( She isn't feeling well.
Everything's a Coke (unless ordering in a restaurant). "Do you want a Coke?" could mean a Dr. Pepper, Sprite.... Can't do the diet stuff, though. Ick.
I don't really drink pop anymore...very rarely. I do drink coffee though...3 -4 cups a day. I hope this change has solved your problems.
We live down the road from the grain elevator and they only and ONE WEEK of harvest....they are hurting. She said they are even taking soft wheat...I'm sure that makes sense to you...to me, wheat is wheat...lol.
I say Coke. But then again, the only coke I drink is Coke. We all say we are going out for a coke, then everyone orders what kind of coke (DP, Sprite, etc) that they want. The kids ask me if they can have a coke then get the variety they want out of the pantry.
Good luck with Milo. Very popular around here. We've never done it since my husband and I have been farming, but we aren't really grain farmers. We have equipment for hay rather than grain. We plant a sudan grass called haygrazer, but we also cut and bale wheat as well.
It's POP up here in Northern Illinois.
my family has always called pop "pop" - but my CHILDREN (who are more EDUCATED) call it "soda" ... that is, unless they are raiding MY refrigerator and then they call it pop because if they ask for soda, they're handed the box of Arm & Hammer ... and they tried to convince me that kleenex are "tissues" - young whippersnappers!
I say Soda or coke. But good for you giving it up. I've had awful UTI's and I should give it up too. It's not good for you. So great that you gave it up!!!
We always used to call it "pop". I know it is not good for you at all, I too am trying to drink water instead. Coffee, I drink 1.2 cup a day...and love it. Hope you are doing OK with your new regimen. I am sorry about your crops, hope the milo helps you some.
That is a great accomplishment. I don't drink much soft drinks, but I do need to cut down on my coffee.
I'm with Annie, everything's Coke here, then you ask what KIND of coke you want.
And anytime you want to catch up with laundry, you can come over here. :)
We just finished the wheat harvest and have grown milo for years.....it is used in cattle feed as well as birdseed. Usually milo is a better crop than wheat.....the weather isn't as big a factor. The fields of red are beautiful as the grain turns.
Pop or Coke...... but give me tea.
Hugs, Barb
It's pop in mid-Michigan!
Sorry your harvest was not good--makes things tough, I know. Sure, I understand --you gotta spend money to make money--that is the way it works.
