This is what I've started. It's easy, it's fast and you can see progress in a hurry. You just have to be let alone long enough to get to sew. My "Come and go with me" partner is always thinking of things I need to do instead of sew.
I'm sewing strips together and then using my WonderCut Ruler to make HST. I have several WOW fabrics but these happen to all be the same. When Walmart (Yes, I buy walmart fabric sometimes) has $1 a yard on WOW, I usually stock up.
Not even sure if I'm going to leave them in this star pattern, but Mary had this design on one of her strip-piecing posts and I used it. What the rest of the quilt will look like..I have no idea...more stars probably.
BTW--the blocks are 6.5". Nice and big so it will work up fast...IF I get to stay home!

BTW--our walmart is not losing their fabric dept. We are still a small store-not a supercenter. This is the closest place I have to buy fabric--or drive 80 miles...or shop online... Several of the supercenters closer to the OKCity area did lose theirs, but we haven't....................yet.

Love that WCR and I especially love your star!
I love the stars! I vote you leave it that way. It willmake a stunning quilt.
I love the stars! Great use of those string strips...the Wonder Cut Ruler is great!
I like your strip stars. I have a wonder cut ruler but have never used it. I bought it when it first came out. One of the ladies who designed it (the daughter) was on an email list with me. Guess it's time I got it out and did some playing, huh?
I love your stringy stars.Good job!
Love the string stars!
Heads up... Wal-Mart will be removing their fabric from their stores sometime this year. There is a brand new store here and there's no fabric in it. Yarn and scrapbook stuff is still there.
While it will be a loss, I'm looking forward to the sale that they'll have to have to get rid of all of it. :D
Hugs,
Melinda
The star looks really sharp- nice contrast with the WOW.
I will buy fabric from Walmart - esp. the muslin fabric - nice and thick, 60 inches wide and cheap. We have very small Walmarts in Canada compared the the ones I have seen in the U.S. - and not very many of them. I hope they don't stop selling the fabric in Walmart here.
The string quilt looks great. That is a nice pattern to make, easy and looks more difficult than it really is :)
I love any stars - especially scrappy! I love my WC ruler too and am just wondering if it is in Austria or if I brought it back state side??? I am still upset that my big 15" square ruler got broken last trip so might have left it behind... whaaaa! But - you look like you are having fun with yours! Way to go! Great scrap buster pattern too, by the way.
Cheers!
Evelyn
That looks lovely and I can see you using up a lot of scraps doing that. I'll be watching your progress.
Hugs, Gail
What? No fabric at Walmart? What will we do, we folks that live FAR from a real fabric store?
Great quilt beginnings!
WOW ! I like this one ! Amazing result ! I really have to make a try with these strings blocks !
Well done ! Enjoy !
Hugs & smiles !

That's pretty, and so smart of you to make strips and do it the fast way! Our brand new store doesn't have fabric either - the older store said probably around April. She said since they buy in volume - all of the stores will stop selling fabric - but will still sell other sewing and craft things. Save up now for the clearance sale!
Love the star - now that I've finished up my Half Square Strings I'm debating on whether to start on one of the star quilts next. I'm going to do a pinepple too but I'm thinking a string star would be good to work on in between the pineapple blocks.
I really like it in stars like this one. Hope that doesn't make too many seams coming together, though!
Intriguing use of string blocks. I must try that one too. Thanks for sharing.
The star looks wonderful!
I love the stringy stars. I keep seeing such great stippy quilt blocks, I'm gonna have to break down and do some.
It may be to late - as I'm late in finding your blog but I vote for the star placement of your HST string blocks!! I am sure by now, you already have the top sewn together. Can't wait to come back and see photos! :c) ~Bonnie
Forgot to ask - Do you care if I copy and save a photo of your blocks? I am addicted to string blocks and love how different each quilt is. I save pics in a folder for inspriation. ~Bonnie
Lovely strip blocks and a very good setting!
I don't have a wondercut ruler - maybe I need one. These blocks look great - I may just have to try a version of this one down the line.
