A start to being done...

I have cussed and discussed this quilt. It's going to be a baby gift for my niece who is due in May. Got the bright idea to do something different.

Well, I've showed you the blocks while I've been working on the embroidery and tonight I got them sewed together into the rest of the blocks.

No, the picture isn't the best. My holder-upper kept wiggling and the light wasn't the best, but hey..you can at least see what I've got put together.
If I haven't said it before, this was a kit bought back several (more than several) years ago. I'm sure it was a store-owner who put it together, but I can honestly say she did a really bad job on the instructions. The directions on sizes for the embroidery blocks didn't match the sizes for the finished blocks and that makes for a cranky seamstress. If you can tell, I had to put sashings around most of the blocks.

There was a drawing for the layout and I tried my best to follow the diagram. I did have one set of flying geese left over and one plain block remaining. May insert the flying geese on the left side where there are more plain blocks to give it some movement there--like it isn't busy enough?! There is also a light blue fabric cut for a 2 1/2" border that I have yet to sew on. Maybe tonight.

Don't even ask if I'm going to machine or hand-quilt this.....after the border gets put on it, I'm not going to look at it until after Christmas.
edit ***I may ship it over to CindyB and let her quilt it for me! She's SUCH a good friend!***

You may be sick of looking at it and miserable over the directions, but to these fresh eyes it looks adorable.

So HOW are you going to quilt it?

I couldn't resist! I think it's perfect for a baby.

That looks so nice - sorry you had problems with it, it doesn't show, really it doesn't. Good idea to do sashings to make them fit.

It is a beautiful quilt. I think the sashing adds interest. I've had that problem with a store also. The lady made a really nice quilt, and a nifty new technique, so I took the class, but she taught us the way she made it, so we made something twice the size, cut it off, and only used half of it. Well, I got two quilts out of it, so it wasn't all bad.

What a fun quilt! Great for a baby. Sorry for the trouble it's caused, but the end is worth it!

I think I like the sashing... and I also like the way the red moves your eye around the quilt top, looking at the different things. :)

It looks good. In her book, Clever Quilts Encore, Susan Teegarden Dissmore, talks about using (cheater) panels. One of the techniques is to do exactly as you have done: add sashing.

I love the quilt, no matter how many fits it gave you. It looks great now!

You may have been cursing this quilt when you made it, but you did a fabulous job! I just love it!
