The first one is Troy getting ready to go into the arena. He's been showing since 8th grade, so it's not something that Mom or Dad has to help him get ready for. Mr. Independent has been real good about being punctual....going to a show anyway.

This picture (and I felt bad after taking it) was taken after Troy placed 2nd in his class and when the judge was picking order for our premium sale. There are 8 class of pigs(avg of 10 per class)...and Troy placed 2nd in his class...but the darn judge would NOT pick him for sale order.
This is a picture of showmanship. It's like saying "thanks for not picking me"....but my kid was being nice and went over and shook his hand. You can see the gal at the table looking...she told me later on that she felt so bad for Troy.
When Troy left the arena, all of the people around me stood up and applauded. I felt very humbled that we have such a great support of parents in our group. The judge just looked at them like "whatjusthappened?" All I can say is ONE MORE SHOW..... life goes on.

wow, he's such a gentleman about it all! That's a good kid you raised there!
I don't know how it is over there, but locally here, sometimes only certain "names" win. Sometimes you know that someone associated with this family or that are the winners (or you know that THAT particular family will never win, no matter how good they are). Totally not fair for the kids. One reason my husband doesn't want our kids to show animals (but I'm still working on him!)
What a great testimony to your son's upbringing and to you as parents for teaching him to be gracious under difficult circumstances. FFA is such a wonderful activity for students, he will remember many of the lessons that he has learned in FFA thoughout his life.

A well raised son! I think it is wonderful that they love working with these animals! I'm always proud of my boys too!

Yes, he may not have been a "winner" in the show, but he's definitely a "winner" as far as men go! Darned Judge! What happens to the pig after the next show? I think I know but my question is . . does he get sold to someone else eventually?
My heart is breaking....
We've been there and done that too. Sydni about had a heat stroke one fall "on the line" w/ first place and didn't get picked...sooooo sad. We had a family in our group w/ a Sr. that didn't make the Muskogee sale this year.....I think she has made it every year but this year. That is certainly not a way one wants to remember their Sr. year....
Carly never did make it in the sale at OKC....she was 1st alternate and that is as close as she got.
Troy will be a better man because of this I'm sure.....doesn't make it any easier though, I know.
Troy Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're a good mom, kiddo!
xxoo
