Brick on the house--

I've owned stacks of bricks since January, but it sure looks good seeing it on the sides of the house instead of piles on the side of the lot!

All of the house has the sheetrock taped and is ready for texturing. This picture shows my kitchen---isn't it georgous?! It's twice the size of my current kitchen....I'm gonna love it. I've been looking at other people's homes trying to get cabinet ideas. Do you have anything special in your kitchen that I would love?! I'm taking ALL ideas!

I hope you're having an island, I've really enjoyed them. My parents have one and it has a sink. Very handy.

You could do what my uncle did - by the stove top is this "pot filler" faucet. Saves you the trouble of carrying a pot full of water to the stove.

My uncle also has TWO dishwashers, one on each side of the sink.

They make microwaves in cabinet drawers, so that could be a neat way to "hide" the microwave.

I would make sure there's counter space on both sides of the stove. In both of my apartments the stove was right next to the fridge, very annoying.

I believe you like to make bread - how about a counter spot that's custom made for your comfortable kneading height?

Do you have a spot prepared for cookbooks?

That's all I can think of right now. :)

Besides all the wonderful things that Leah said here are some that I am wishing for....

A pantry that is useful. Mine right now is basically a closet with shelves that are 20" deep so I can't see crap in the back of the pantry.

A drawer (or more) for pots and pans. It's so much easier than having a cabinet and having to bend down or in my case actually get on the floor to reach them.

I will definitely go for more drawers in my next kitchen because what I have isn't enough.

I love the fact that all of my pantry shelves pull out like drawers. The same with my pots and pans. I keep all of my serving bowls and colanders in the lazy susan. It is alway a plus to have more cupboard than stuff! The key is if you haven't used it in a year...pack it away or give it away.

Some great suggestions here! I want Bren's kitchen I think - definitely slide out drawers in the pantry. And drawers for pots and pans :)

Not that I have them, but if you have the height, I love the cabinets that have glass fronted small cabintes over the regular cabinets.

Have you looked at Cabinetdiscounters.com (they may be local to me, but they are supposed to have a lot of inspiration on their site.)

How exciting. Your new home is going to be FANTASTIC!! The only think I can't think of to say is that we put in pergo and I love it! Roogrr can run around and around and never leaves a claw mark anywhere. I can drop the heavy can opener and no marks. Ours is a lightish wood grain and it hides the dirty paw marks really well and washes up perfectly when I do mop.

When I did my kitchen I put a lot of deep drawers for pots and pans, bakeware, linens etc...I also had a pantry put in with the doors that have shelves, shelves that have 2 sides that swing and then deep shelves inside. I love this. I have a baking cabinet and a lazy susan in the lower corner that houses my small appliances. I am left handed so the cabinet that my glassware is in is located next to my dishwasher and they put the door so it swung open to the right...I love my Merrilat sp ? Plus cabinets..they are all hardwood drawers inside that are dovetailed and all lower cabinets come with slide out shelves..my island has large drawers and one corner cabinet and this is nice. I have corian as countertops and have enjoyed this so much..my sink is corian and it is intergrated so there is no grout and I had them router in a washboard next to the sink so I can set my wet dishes right on the counter and it drains back into the sink..they made me cutting boards from the cutouts and windows sills with the rest of the scraps...I Love my kitchen I hope this helps...toni

My cabinet shelves pull out like drawers, and that is a bit plus. Agree with a comment above about useful pantries, 20" shelves are much too deep to keep track of what is there. I've seen some vertical pull outs that have shelves, don't know how to describe them, but they look like a series of narrow doors, but the whole door pulls forward, doesn't open out. Lots more storage space, takes advantage of depth but you can get to and see everything

It's really moving along! The brick is a great look on the outside, and your kitchen looks big! Is your sink going under the window?

Pull out draws for the pots and pans are great and that Lacy Susan in the corner cabinet is good too. Hope that helps.

You are so much further ahead than me! How did you get ahead, I think we started at the same time? Anyway, quit my whining and tell you that I love the brick.

My kitchen will have a cabinet for cookie sheets and one that has two double bins for recycling and garbage. I put all drawers under my cooktop, rather than cabinets. I have a working pantry, with counter tops instead of just storage. That way, I can just shut the door if it is messy and I don't have time to clean it up.

I have the dishwasher to the left of the sink, then a big drawer that takes the plates and cups to the left of that which is very convenient. I also have a skinny cupboard next to the stove for the oven trays and racks. I have a walk in pantry with a power point in there which is where I keep the toaster and the kettle, out of sight.
